"Somewhere to keep the Wayne fortune."
The yellow oval turned up in 1964, when editor Julius Schwartz gave Batman a New Look to stop DC cancelling him outright. Sales recovered, the oval stuck around for the next thirty odd years, and it is still the version most people draw from memory. This one is moulded as a coin bank on a pedestal base, about eight inches across, with a twist lock stopper underneath for the day you decide the fund is ready to spend. Bruce keeps his in a cave.
