Charles Lee Ray took his name from three real killers: Charles Manson, Lee Harvey Oswald and James Earl Ray. Don Mancini dreamed up the whole story as a dig at the battery-powered talking dolls flooding 1980s toy shops, which makes a talking Chucky bucket a lovely bit of full-circle mischief. The Good Guy himself, knife in hand and overalls on. Press him and he reels off three phrases, his head lights up and turns, and the rear lid lifts for your popcorn. Tested and working.
