George Lucas named Indy after his Alaskan Malamute, a gag the films finally own up to at the end of Last Crusade. This is the in-universe article: the journal of Dr Henry Jones Jr, dressed up as a Russian security file lifted out of the old KGB archive and running from 1908 to 1957. Sketches, snapshots, press cuttings and his notes on the Thuggee cult, the Nazis and the crystal skull. Leather-look hardback with a red elastic strap, covers printed as a stamped and redacted case file.
Please note: some pages are printed to look ripped out. That is part of the design, not damage, and nothing is missing from the book.
