Jack got his personality from roughly four hundred swappable heads, one per expression, because stop-motion does not do subtlety cheaply. Henry Selick's crew shot about a minute of finished film a week for three years to get there. Beast Kingdom's D-Stage squeezes all that Halloween Town atmosphere into a 15cm diorama you can actually fit on a shelf, layered scenery behind him and the Pumpkin King front and centre. Still sealed in its blister. Christmas can wait.
