The Thing bombed in 1982, buried by a summer of friendlier aliens, then spent forty years clawing its way to classic. Kurt Russell's MacReady is the whisky-drinking chopper pilot trying to hold a paranoid research base together while nobody knows who is still human. Rob Bottin was barely out of his teens when he built the film's practical effects, and the work nearly finished him off. NECA's Ultimate Outpost 31 MacReady comes with the hat, the goggles, three heads, the rifle and his bottle and tumbler.
