"I know I'm human."
The Thing opened in June 1982, two weeks after E.T., and audiences who had just cried over a friendly alien were in no mood for a hostile one. It flopped. Now it sits near the top of every horror list going. Kurt Russell plays MacReady, the helicopter pilot with the beard, the flamethrower and trust issues nobody could blame him for. This Pop has him in the brown jacket and green trousers, wild-haired and bearded, with something lit in his hand. At Outpost 31, that counts as standard procedure.
