The Short Answer: No, Uncanny doesn't buy Pokémon cards, anime or manga. It's not our area and we'd be guessing at values. What we do buy is pre-owned and vintage action figures, horror and sci-fi/fantasy lines, and whole mixed collections. Below is what we take, why we pass on the rest, and where to sell it in Ireland instead.
We get a lot of messages, and a fair share are for things we simply don't deal in. Pokémon cards top that list, with anime, manga and wrestling figures close behind. Rather than send a one-line "sorry, not us" reply, we'd rather lay it all out so you don't waste an afternoon. Being straight with you is the favour here.
Quick Answers
Does Uncanny buy Pokémon cards?
No. We don't buy or sell trading cards of any kind - Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, or sports cards. It isn't a market we're in, we've no experience valuing them, and there are too many fakes in circulation for us to deal with safely. We'd be doing you a disservice pretending otherwise.
Does Uncanny buy anime or manga?
No, not anime-only or manga-only collections. It's not a market we know or have an interest in, so we couldn't give you a fair price or a fast turnaround. You'll do far better in the community Facebook collector groups, or selling it yourself on Adverts.ie, Facebook Marketplace, eBay or Vinted.
Do you buy WWE / wrestling figures?
No. The wrestling-figure market is flooded, so there's little we can offer that would make it worth your while. If wrestling figures are part of a bigger mixed lot, that's a different story - see below.
What does Uncanny actually buy?
Pre-owned and vintage action figures, horror collectibles, and sci-fi/fantasy lines - think Star Wars, Aliens, Predator, TMNT, Transformers and Masters of the Universe. We also take whole mixed collections in one go. If it's the kind of thing we'd happily put on our own shelf, we want to hear about it.
Where can I sell Pokémon cards in Ireland?
Honestly, we can't point you to one best buyer - it's not our area, so we'd only be guessing, and there are so many card shops and buyers popping up now that we couldn't keep track even if we tried. The fairest steer we can give: get out to card shows and mini-cons, ask around, and keep searching online until you get a feel for the right buyer for you. You can also sell directly yourself on Adverts.ie, Facebook Marketplace, eBay or Vinted. On price, check completed eBay "Sold" listings or Cardmarket to see what cards like yours actually fetch.
What we don't buy, and the honest why
We could stretch ourselves thin and dabble in everything, but you'd get a worse deal for it. Here's where we draw the line and why.
Trading cards - a firm no. Pokémon, Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh!, sports cards: all of it. Three reasons. It's not a market we're in. We've no track record valuing cards, so any number we gave you would be a guess. And the volume of fakes makes it a minefield we're not equipped to walk through.
Anime-only and manga-only collections. No interest and no expertise - a bad combination for a seller hoping for a fair offer.
WWE and wrestling figures. The market's flooded, so the maths rarely works for either of us.
Funko-only collections. We will take some Funko, but only when it's part of a larger collection we're already interested in - we don't buy Funko-only lots. If you've a stack of Pops on their own to move, the two Irish Funko Facebook groups are the place to start - Funko Pop Ireland and Funko POP! Ireland, UK and EU - or sell them yourself on Adverts.ie, Facebook Marketplace, eBay or Vinted. We've also written a separate honest guide on selling Funko in Ireland that points you the right way.
Loose Barbie, Sindy and Action Man. We get asked about these a lot, and the honest answer is we'll only really look if they're still sealed - and even then it's rare it's something for us. Loose dolls and figures from these lines aren't a market we can do much with.
Most diecast collections. What we cover is tied to films, TV, video games and pop culture. The bulk of diecast - old Corgi-style model cars and "Cars of Yesteryear"-type reprints - isn't licensed pop-culture stuff, so it isn't for us. If it's a heavy box of those, we're not the buyer.
Eaglemoss Marvel & DC figurines and chess sets. Lovely things, but the second-hand market for them is completely flooded, so there's nothing we could do that would be worth your while.
What we do buy and genuinely love
We focus on what we know - pre-owned and vintage action figures, horror, sci-fi and fantasy. Star Wars, Aliens, Predator, TMNT, Transformers, Masters of the Universe, and the horror lines that other shops shy away from. This is the stuff we'd be collecting whether we ran a shop or not, which is exactly why we can value it fairly and quickly. Have a look at what's currently on the pre-owned toys and collectibles shelves to get a feel for it.
Where to go instead
We'd rather send you to the right place than waste your time, so here's our honest steer.
Comics. Sam at WHAM! Comics Shop - someone we know well and send comic sellers to - knows the comics trade inside out. We've written more on this in our guide to selling your comics in Ireland.
Retro video games & consoles. Amy at Retro Ralph, who we work with, handles these - she's mostly online and at shows, so reach her through her website at retroralph.ie.
Pokémon and trading cards. We can't recommend a specific shop or buyer in good conscience - it's not our world, and new ones appear faster than we could ever vet them. Get to card shows and mini-cons, ask other collectors, and search around until you find a buyer you trust. You can also sell yourself on Adverts.ie, Facebook Marketplace, eBay or Vinted, and price against eBay "Sold" listings or Cardmarket to see what cards like yours actually fetch.
Anime and manga. The community Facebook collector groups are a good first stop, or sell it yourself on Adverts.ie, Facebook Marketplace, eBay or Vinted. Price against eBay "Sold" listings filtered to recent European sales.
Funko on its own. Try the two Irish Funko Facebook groups - Funko Pop Ireland and Funko POP! Ireland, UK and EU - or sell them yourself on Adverts.ie, Facebook Marketplace, eBay or Vinted. Remember we'll still take Funko if it's part of a larger collection we want.
The mixed-collection exception
Here's the nuance worth flagging. If those bits are a small part of a larger collection - a few cards, some anime, a wrestling figure or a couple of Funkos tucked in among loads of stuff we do want - that's completely fine. Don't sort it out or set anything aside; send the whole lot and we'll look at it together. We'd never ask you to break up a good collection over a handful of odd pieces.
Where it's different is when the off-wheelhouse stuff is a big chunk of it. If a collection is more like half cards, anime or Funko and half figures, we're honestly not interested in the half that sits outside our lanes - so we'd only be able to look if it can be split, with us taking the part that's actually ours. Give us a rough idea of the mix when you message and we'll be straight about what we can and can't do.
How to get a straight answer from us, fast
If you've action figures, horror or sci-fi pieces, or a whole mixed collection, message us and we'll come back to you quickly. The fastest route is WhatsApp on +353 85 827 2191 or email us at info@uncannycollectibles.com. A few photos and a rough idea of what's there is all we need to start. All buying is arranged in advance - nothing turns up unannounced - we book an appointment for any drop-off, and you're paid on receipt. You can also reach us through the contact page, and there's more detail on how it works on our we buy collections page.
The bottom line
If it's figures, horror, sci-fi or fantasy - or a mixed collection with a bit of everything - talk to us. If it's cards, anime or comics on their own, you now know exactly where to take them. Either way, you've got a real answer instead of a runaround.
