Marina Sirtis auditioned for Tasha Yar. Denise Crosby auditioned for Troi. Roddenberry swapped the pair of them late in casting, which is how the Enterprise ended up with a half-Betazoid counsellor who could read a room before anyone opened their mouth. Playmates caught her in the grey jumpsuit era with a tricorder, PADD, desktop viewer and portable computer gear. None of which is much use when the job is telling the captain someone is lying.
