James Earl Jones narrated this segment, which is why a Halloween cartoon from 1990 sounds like Darth Vader reading Poe aloud. McFarlane built the whole scene rather than a single figure: Homer mid-meltdown in his dressing gown, Marge as Lenore in the hanging portrait, Bart perched overhead as the bird, and Lisa and Maggie floating on clear rods as winged cherubs. Bart, for the record, still thought the poem wasn't scary.
