Star Wars took from samurai films first. Lucas built the shape of A New Hope out of Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress, so dressing Boba Fett as a ronin is the idea coming home. Mandalorian plate becomes lacquered samurai armour, the blaster becomes a matchlock musket, and a short katana sits sheathed on his belt. Daggers clip all over the ankles, with one on the wrist where the rocket launcher used to be. Ronin means masterless, which suits a man who only ever worked for money.
