Frank Oz worked the puppet by hand and half the crew reckoned audiences would never buy a rubber gremlin as a Jedi master. They bought it completely. This Empire Yoda is the Dagobah hermit in his ragged robe with his gimer-stick cane, tiny and wrinkled and wise. He perches on the vintage Empire Strikes Back card. Stuart Freeborn modelled the face partly on his own and partly on Einstein. Nine hundred years old and still the best in the business.
